Be sure to use silicon oil or grease on the wheels (or any plastic parts really). Using petroleum based lube will deteriorate the plastic and the wheels will squawk even worse over time.

It was common long ago for vac shops to rewire these machines to disable high speed to increase motor life. If the machine works at the same speed with either nozzle or hose, the the above may have been done.
