I have to agree with Rob on this one. I had an ultralux 80th that was sold thru QVC. It had two PNs. One for regular use and one for carpet cleaning powder. The power nozzle ran it by itself. When the canister was plugged in. You can probably open it up and put the lead from the pn on the switch.

How weak? Those CBs didn't have tons of power to begin with anyway. I was disappointed when I first used one to find them a little below the power of a regular canister. Did you check the large cloth filter? Wash it? I'd blow/wash out the fans with an air compressor and check the commutator...
