I will definitely say that the D4 has more suction at the floor when when compared to Miele S8. I got the Wessel Werk twister nozzle and it is harder to push than when using the Miele. I found that the D4 with the suction decreased by two presses of the minus from max, is equal to the Miele on hardfloors.

I have never seen an E or a D in person so I was wondering about the D range as it has 'clicks'.

I’ll have to count them next time, but I believe there are about 6-7 speeds.
I just counted 9 total on mine, where the 9th turns off suction altogether (idle mode or whatever they call it)

In other words, 8 levels of suction + 1 level of no suction.

Edit: I suppose its actually 10: starting at 'max' there are 8 positions of suction below it, and then one more at "idle"/no suction.
