IMG_2222.jpegI seen this video from Vacmaster 1991 on YouTube, and it appears that the 236 has changed. I bought a 236 last year and mine was made in Poland, but it still has a bumper. It appears that Miele has removed the bumper from the 236, and the lease appears to be smoked.

Interesting, which video was it he pointed this out?
I think they should do away with the 236 honestly. The 228 is able to deal with a greater variety of carpets including those newer soft carpets so it doesn't make sense to me to have a higher trim model that doesn't deal with them as well.

I really can’t understand why they would sell their flagship model without the 236. I might have to get to a Miele dealer and see how the display L1 feels, I have a feeling that it doesn’t have the traditional Miele feel. I do want to buy their new carpet and floor tool, looks pretty good.

For the money you pay, you’d think they would have a headlight on all the Miele power nozzles. Even the cheapest stick vacs have some LED bulbs on the front of the nozzle.
Definitely! The company that Miele contracts (Wessel Werk) have headlights on their version, not sure why Miele thought it would be a great idea to remove them!

Perhaps the 236 is still available as an option at dealers but only being made now for a limited time? I don't know, I thought Wessel Werk fully discontinued them but maybe not. I would've loved it if WW expanded the market for the 236 where it can be a retrofit for other canisters and central vacs, I too prefer the 236 over the 228.

Not in my home on my rugs with my pet hair. The SEB 228 ( EBK 360 ) is useless. It kind of scrapes all the pet hair into a pile at the back of the back stroke but it doesn't matter how many times you go over that pile of hair or what direction, it still leaves a nice neat linear pile of hair behind. The SEB 236 takes five or six passes but eventually gets the hair.

Meanwhile any Kenmore, Sebo or Lindhaus power nozzle, or even the cheap Chinese power nozzle that came with my Metrovac Evolution, removes the hair in one or two passes. The one Miele power nozzle that does work sort of acceptably is the SEB 226. Steel sole plate, steel brush roll with brush strip inserts like a Riccar PB100 or an old Panasonic Jet Flo power nozzle. Only shortcoming is that even set on 5, the highest setting, my rugs smoke-checked a new Kirby belt in under 15 minutes of use. Lame. I guess I have to try the OEM Miele belt but they want $18 for one effing stretch belt. Highway robbery.

A Kirby belt?
The D226 uses a flat stretch belt. It is one of the older Miele power nozzles. It has an Ametek drive motor that looks just like what you would find in an old Eureka Vibragroomer or old Filter Queen power nozzle. Miele wants something like $18 for their belt so I tried a Kirby belt instead. It didn't last 15 minutes so I guess I need to bend over and pay for the Miele part. A set of four brush strips for it cost $75.
