Hose died on 1401-B. What's the best replacement?

So my hose for my 1401-b died by... just sitting there ready for action. Deeply upsetting as the house has been alittle overdue for a vacuuming, one of the pins lost continuity to the plug but the other has good continuity.

Given that this vacuum cleaner is maybe 40+ years old, what is the best hose replacement even if it isnt original? I have a power nozzle v3 i believe with the two pins.
 
I couldn't find the ten footer I have but I did find something that fits your machine, is new and very reasonably priced. There is no model number per-se for the hose for your machine. All the steel body Electroluxes used the same steel canister end you see in this hose. So shop around but for the price this is a really good replacement.

I like the toggle switch alot. Might have to go and get that one. Sometimes I've found myself wanting to temporarily turn off the brush for a spot. Thank you very much for finding this.
 
Snowbeast428 - First of all, let me say of all the aftermarket hoses available, the one Cheesewonton linked to would be your best choice. However, I would NOT buy it, and here's why - they have too many problems!

With the aftermarket hoses, the first thing to give trouble is the sliding suction relief valve on the top of the hose. They loosen up within a year of ownership, and you usually wind up having to hold it closed with a rubber band or a piece of tape. The screw holes in the plastic will also within a year or 2 start to not hold the screws that hold the handle trim in place. Also, it is likely within a few years the receptacle that mates to the plug in the sheath will get scorch marks or burn out, meaning the hose will no longer transmit energy to the wand to power the powerhead unless you replace the entire handle assembly. The reason for this is the notches in the metal stub tube are deeper on the aftermarket hoses than the genuine Electrolux hoses. The metal clip on the sheath won't "grip" those notches on the aftermarket hoses as effectively, causing play and wiggle room as you push and pull the wand and powerhead. If you try the aftermarket Electrolux wand and sheath, you will actually notice the metal clip is stronger on the aftermarket versus the genuine - this is intentional, so that it grips the metal notches on the aftermarket hose it's intended to be used with better.

If you want the ability to shut off your powerhead, I would suggest you should replace your powehead with a PN6 or later from the late 80's/early 90's that has the sliding power switch on the powerhead, and get a nice genuine used Electrolux hose. That way you avoid any problems with your new hose breaking or failing prematurely. If you do go with the aftermarket option Cheesewonton linked to, I would also insist on replacing the entire wand assembly with one from the Perfect C103 / Clean Obsessed canister.

Huh. None of my pns have a power switch. Weird. My ten footer has a Hayden looking gas pump handle but the electrical connection juts out under the spout to direct connect to the wand. Wish I could find it. It's been a good hose. The seller used to sell them with a traditional Electrolux style handle and the Hayden looking gas pump handle.

Well... Unfortunately it's abit late for that one but this is good knowledge to have for the future or if i get a spare hose.

That's the exact model hose i had before it unfortunately suffered it's issue so good to know they're out there for decent prices.
 
If at all possible, get a genuine Electrolux vinyl replacement hose. As others have said, they're just made better. That said, I have two generic hoses that have had the aforementioned issues with the loose sliding suction relief and with the too short screws on the underside. The slider I fixed with one of those rubber bands that come on certain types of produce like broccoli or celery. They're exactly the right size for the job. The short screw problem I fixed by replacing the one that was too short with a longer one from a genuine Electrolux hose that was otherwise trashed. That's the one I can't understand. How much more, if anything, would it have cost the manufacturer to use a slightly longer screw? I also agree that the generic hoses' on/off switches are a nice feature and I wish Electrolux/Aerus would have added that feature to theirs. It's great to be able to instantly shut the brush roll off when I accidentally suck up something I shouldn't have.

I'll likely get a genuine vinyl hose in the near future. This will hold me over till that time frame. I wonder if those tiny magnets would work glued to it as well.

With the genuine hose I have being unrepairable (I couldn't get the handle to split apart to look at the wires) I can use the screw from that most likely. Worst case if this aftermarket hose works too poorly I do have the old push metal bar type floor scrubber but i found that doesnt work too great.

The hose I suggested with the gas pump handle doesn't fall apart. I have used one for many years with my Silverado and Perfect C101 and no problems. I have had plenty of problems with genuine Electrolux and Aerus hoses, like wires overheating at the canister end burning the hose and contacts getting dirty and developing dead spots on the handle swivel. Aerus wants too much money for their stuff unless you know someone and can get a good guy price.

Spray deoxit in the pins and get a tiny wire brush to spin around in there. They get dirty from plugging/unplugging..
