I don't yet have a vacuum cleaner collection. My mum has 2 vacuums that i love to use. I have autism and so in the future do have my mind set on starting my own vacuum cleaner collection. I love vacuum cleaners and have done ever since i was old enough to walk and talk
What are your earliest and favorite vacuum memories?
I remember my aunt had a red Panasonic upright vacuum (can't remember the model though) i used to always want to turn it on to listen to the motor. I think she burnt out after a while sadly. I also remember my mum had a lovely electrolux the boss 1300W machine. I loved the sound of the motor in that machine too. I used to love trying to vacuum with it. But as I'm blind i had a few smokey accidents where i sucked a shoe lace up into the brush and I caused the belt to smoke a bit. I remember all our vacuum cleaners we've ever had from being a baby until now. I can probably name the models if I rack my brain long enough. My favorite vacuum cleaners were of corse the older ones, as now machines don't last for long at all before either the motor burns out or something on the machine body gets broken.
What is the history of vacuum you have owned?
We've had the following machines in chronological order. First machine I remember us having was an Electrolux vacuum that my mum inherrited from my granddad after he passed. Then we had a premier Mini 175, after that, the Electrolux the boss 1300W, (a builder thought it was okay to use it to suck up plaster dust with) which pretty much killed the motor) After that we got a dirt devil cylinder/canister vacuum(don't remember which model) but that burnt out. then We then got a Hoover purepower (which i didn't like the sound of.) When that burnt out we got an Electrolux Vitesse which after a year or so also burnt out (it stank.) Then we got a Bissell upright cleaner which didn't burn out but the brush roller went on it. We then went for a Samsung SU-3350, i really liked this machine because the motor sounded lovely, but the hose split and eventually (being a bagless) the suction went; and even after washing the filter it stillwasn't working. So I bought our first vaccuum cleaner. It was just a cheap vax machine and i don't remember the model. Then I got us another cheap model (a Hoover) and that lasted all of 2 ears before the smell of carbons told us it was about to burn out. Then I bought us a Vax u89-MA-LE vacuum; and she was one of my best vacuums i chose. I miss that machine so much. She was a really good machine (suction was really good, motor wasn't a screamer) and she kept going strong for 6 years. I was (and am) still heartbroken having to say goodbye. Having autism if a machine performs really well gor a long time, i get used to it, so this hit me hard. Then my mum bought a Numatic Henry for upstairs; and a Bosch chordless machine for downstairs. I love uusing the chordless cleaner because it's quiet, it performs well and lasts for ages on a single charge; and its still going after 2/3 years.
Have you ever worked on, repaired and/or restored any vacuum cleaners?
no, but I've always been discouraged from doing so, because I'm blind. But I say I've driven a car (with a driving instructor beside me) before so what's stopping me? I know the safety precautions I'd need to take and would not work on anything electrical without supervision, but I think i could fix a vacuum with help
