Kirby 516 (I think) I bought from someone a couple towns over for $20 with all the attachments. Box and all.
What are your dream machines yet to be found?
This 516 I think.
What are your earliest and favorite vacuum memories?
I grew up with an Electrolux canister vacuum that was blue and white and chrome, with chrome runners. It looked like a rocket. I learned how to clean with that vaccum. Once I was cleaning my hamster cage and accidentally vacuumed up my hamster!!! She got sucked into the tube and was hanging on to the edge of the nozzle and I very quickly turned it off with the big switch on top, which was an easy thing to hit in a panic mode as a kid who just sucked up their hamster, thank goodness. She was unharmed. I was never so scared in my life.
What is the history of vacuum you have owned?
My first vacuum was also an Electrolux canister hand me down refurbished from Kmart. Blue and grew with 3 little wheels. I Had it my whole adult
life except when I moved out of state for a few years. (I left it with my mom)
While living out of state I found an neat old Kirby all chrome with 2 cloth bags and a de-mothing jar. It was in perfect working condition. I left it there when I moved but never forgot how awesome it was. I wish I had brought it back home!
So after several years with a Shark I needed a new vaccum and went searching for an old one like I had and found an old Kirby for $20 a couple towns away. It came with all of the things.
Have you ever worked on, repaired and/or restored any vacuum cleaners?
Yes. This new one needed cleaning badly, and a new belt and things. I sewed the bag. My husband is a mechanic and went over it and it runs pretty good. I would like to continue fixing it up so it looks nice again. The vacuum repair places in my area are all out of business now so I want to learn how to do it.
