What are your earliest and favorite vacuum memories?
Ohhhhhhhhhhh, When i was a kid! I loved vacuums! I loved this show at walt disney world called Walt Disneys caorusel of progress. My favorite scene? the 20s! why? there was an antique GE vacuum (Ive recently revisited the show and seen it where the vauum wouldnt turn on! not even a hum!) I would ride the ride/show over and over just to see the vacuum and always at up front to bbe closer to it!
My grandmother (dads side) had 2 antique vacuums, a small metal canister and a central vac, plus a superbroom. It was vacuum heaven there! she still has all 3!
The earliest photographed picture of me with a vacuum Ive found was me in 1999 at my Maternal grandparents house (RIP Grandpa Jack) with their Hoover Custom Convertible model u4395. that was what would later become my trusty machine!
I remember my mom and dad having my uncle Damians Kirby (To this day I wish my family still owned a Kirby!) when I was little. I think we later gave that back to my uncle and went for a royal all metal upright (Doesnt clean as well as the Kirby as per the CRI!)
I remember also my familys m08510 dirt devil, such a great vacuum (lasted 10-15 years until the plastic broke)! I wonder why vacuum companies dont make handvacs like that anymore and instead make crappy ones (okay there are exceptions, but still).
my top 3 favorite vauuum memories in recent years are:
1. FINALLY getting my grandma and grandpas old hoover that I wanted to borrow as a kid. It sort of either was meant to happen or happened by chance.
2. Getting the kirby sentria my first vacuum bought with my own money and now it is my money maker! my grandma will pay me to shampoo her rugs with that beast!
3. being given my own vacuum at the rec center to use (a cleanmax quickdraw pro series!)
What is the history of vacuum you have owned?
previous vacuums ive owned/not in my posession:
Oreck Magnesium (was returned to the store due to the upper half not lowering!)
Oreck Magnesium - family owned; junk, cloged easily, but seemed to clean well by means of how the bag fills up nicely. cause of death: split black wire and a red pinched wire for switch
oreck ultimate hand held (came with the magnesium; returned with first magnesium!)
oreck ultimate hand held (came with the magnesium; still in my house)
Dyson Dc07 animal - returned to the store due to belt issue!
Dyson dc07 animal (was falling apart. left at the dump on 2/10/18)
Dirt devil hand vac plus m08510 -family owned, and was trashed after s good 10-15 years with it due to broken plastic.
Dirt devil m08510 - ebay find, worked for a year before plastic jammed the fan and had to be HEAVILY modified to work; recently junked, but motr still in possesion.
Panasonic mc-v7390 - given to my familys house cleaner the christmas the dyson came home; was a good machine.
hoover floormate pre TTI merger model -
- junked after a few years due to plastic breaking i guess
black and decker cordless floor buster- no clue what happened to it
Electrolux Ergorapido 14v red -
was a christmas gift; sold due to no longer needing it.
Dirt devil gator 10.8v - was a handheld vac originally for my hangout area at my parents house; for sale due to no longer needing it
Ridgid shopvac BD 8000 from the 90s; family owned
Royal all metal upright - had it i think while i was still in florida in the 90s. Maybe Im confusing it with my uncles kirby.
Kirby Tradition - my VERY first upright! My family actually had it when I was born, but it was actually my uncles, and was until he broke the fan in 2017z
Eureka Superbroom Brushup - Family owned; had it before moving to chicago in 2000.
Unknown brand black ash vac - christmas gift for my father.
Sebo Felix (replacement for the dyson)
Dirt Devil m08510 (2.8 Amps, sold after a wire popped out during a clean out and the solid end broke off)
Hoover u4395 (was my grandma’s, but was thrown out by my local vacuum store without my knowledge, and I miss it SO much!)
Dirt devil broomvac 720 (was originally going to be for an apartment, but sold it a while before)

Refurbished and gifted or sold:
Kirby tradition
Kirby g5
Electrolux discovery iii
Hoover h3000
Dirt devil 503
Have you ever worked on, repaired and/or restored any vacuum cleaners?
I’ve refurbished: 3 Dirt Devil m08510 hand vacs (1 was sold after a wire issue), a Dirt Devil carvac (12v Hand Vac), Oreck Power Brush (Oreck branded Kirby Vacuette), Dirt Devil Gator 10.8V (sold), Hoover Floormate H3000, Hoover c1439, dirt devil broom vac.
I’ve not really repaired any vacuums, but I have fixed a base crack in my Hoover u4395 with Flex Shot, and taken apart my Kirby (tried to get to the fan as it jammed, but stopped short after being unable to figure out how to remove the motor).
Other than that, I’ve never really worked on any vacuums except for unclogging them and helping my dad modify my first m08510 after the plastic broke (still have the motor, but I threw the vacuum out. Because I couldn’t stand to look at it like that any longer.
In 2020, this changed when I cleaned up my dual Sanitronic 80, sold a Kirby g5, and gifted a Kirby Tradition. I’ve refurbished a discovery iii (sort of) and sold it off, and a eureka superbroom also in 2020
In 2021, I’ve torn down a legend II to the point where it was in pieces and had a fan change, and cleaned up 4 dirt devils (all hand vacs), a sanitaire, a Hoover Quik broom, and a Hoover help mate.
