If I can get access to the motor, of course, I may be able to clean it up / change the brushes / restore the commutator or whatever needs doing. There aren't any obvious screws on the outside but I imagine if I start unclipping bits like that airbelt thingeee I might find a way in...... It...

I've just tried it with the bag door open and also having removed the filter from the bottom and it still sounds very poorly. Perhaps you're right and that it's been poorly looked after. I don't know if it's audible on the video apart from the horrible noise the motor seems to struggle to hold...
