Thanks for all the replies The motor hasn't smelled like it's been overheating since I changed the HEPA filter. I think it may have just been suffering from a clogged filter that was choking the motor. I saw a youtube of another Miele where the guy removed the HEPA and it was darker than mine...

This is a cross post from AW... I have an 8 year old Jazz upright that lately sounds a little louder and smells like it's overheating. There are no apparent clogs, I just installed a brand new bag and HEPA filter. The old HEPA was gray which was unusual. All the previous filters looked brand...
