What are your dream machines yet to be found?
I’d like to eventually have a clean, complete, working, metal-bodied Electrolux with power nozzle.
And, an orange Eureka with power nozzle, like my family had back in the 1970s/80s.
A blue Hoover Lark "stick vac". We had two of those when I was very young. I have no idea what happened to them, but it was the first vacuum that my mom let me use.
What are your earliest and favorite vacuum memories?
I always found it soothing and relaxing when Mom would vacuum.
And I loved the look and feel of the freshly vacuumed carpets, even as a little guy!
The earliest vacuums I remember her owning were a gold and brown Hoover Portable, and a blue Hoover Lark stick vac.
An orange Eureka canister, with Roto-Matic power nozzle, and a blue Eureka upright entered the picture at some point. I remember the Dial A Nap control.
I was interested in them as far back as I can remember. And as I got older, I liked cleaning them, and eventually using them.
What is the history of vacuum you have owned?
First one was the Oreck XL that the wife and I bought when we first got married.
At some point, after we bought our house, I bought a refurbished, white with blue trim Electrolux Epic 6500 off of eBay.
A few years later, I couldnt pass up a one-owner, complete and minty dark blue with beige trim Epic 6500 that I saw on Craigslist.
My latest Epic is a 75th Anniversary that was a curb find.
It needs lots of help, and was badly abused, but I had to try to rescue it!
I have since found a dark grey Ambassador III, also a curb find.
It looks like it was hardly used, up until someone used it as a wet/dry vac, and sucked up a bunch of something that looks like blown-in insulation, or paper pulp or something.
After a thorough cleaning, including my first experience with taking apart a power nozzle, it looks amazing.
The main motor and power nozzle work great, but the motor does have whats probably some bearing noise when winding down.
Have you ever worked on, repaired and/or restored any vacuum cleaners?
So far, only to take apart a power nozzle for a much needed cleaning.
But, I have an Epic 6500 that needs the cord reel replaced, and another one that needs a new motor.
So, I will be attempting those jobs at some point.
