I just have a Hoover wind tunnel carpet upright. Its brushes roll loudly against the housing.
What are your dream machines yet to be found?
Electrolux vintage sled
What are your earliest and favorite vacuum memories?
A bag upright at my grandmother's farm. I was fascinated by the metal, the dark brown bag - the phenomenon of it inflating - and the possibility that it might explode.
What is the history of vacuum you have owned?
I have owned Hoovers. I nearly bought a Kirby water filter machine with college room mates in the late 1970s. The door-to-door salesman tried to market it to us as a bong supertoker. I regret not buying the machine. I lived as a counsellor in a group home that did have such a machine.
Have you ever worked on, repaired and/or restored any vacuum cleaners?
My college room mate and I took apart a Hoover upright. He was an electrical engineering junior, and he rewired the motor. I made fun of him by donning a WW 2 army helmet, pushing the couch on its side and hiding to prepare for his plugging the machine in and turning it on. The machine started up, then began to shake apart and explode, sending parts all over the room. We howled.
