What are your dream machines yet to be found?
Galaxie Prestige 990, Hoover 150 and 27, Westinghouse tank, big wheel cannister, and pre-war upright, and Electro-Hygiene model 565 (I think) canister.
What are your earliest and favorite vacuum memories?
Probably the earliest memories would be of Moms Lux 30 and the Kenmore tank we had in the basement and the toy Hoover I got for Christmas when I was 2 1/2. Like many other collectors, I knew at an early age what vacs everyone had and where they kept them.
What is the history of vacuum you have owned?
How 'bout the ones I own now? Several of you already know that my 82 Connie was my maternal Grandmothers, bought for her by my Grandfather for their last anniversary before he passed away, and that my Westinghouse belonged to an Aunt whose husband worked most of his life at the Westinghouse plant in Mansfield, OH. Most of their appliances were Westinghouse. I bought my 966 Hygiene tank for my Mother while I was selling Electro-Hygienes. If I would have known then that would someday be a collector, I would have kept her Lux XXX and the Kenmore "Torpedo Tank" instead of trading them in for the 966!
Have you ever worked on, repaired and/or restored any vacuum cleaners?
Used to be able to do a complete motor rebuild on Hygiene uprights back when I was selling them and hadn't done that in many years, but when I started working on vacs in my collection it all came back to me. Have also done some polish & cleanup work on several of the vacs in my collection, replaced bearing plates in 2 Kirbys, motor brushes in Lux XXX, cords, etc. Seems the more I work on them and the more I learn, the more I enjoy it! Tried to fix a Hoover 28 for our church when I was in High School. Never got it fixed, they replaced it, and it remained in Moms basement until she sold her house. Then in July of 2006, it was completely refurbished by myhooverco. Thanks again, Tom!!!
