    Are Oreck Vacuums any good?

I’m not the biggest fan of orecks. The only ones worth getting are the old XL style and even still they aren’t great. I’ve worked on 30 or so of those xl style orecks since our shop acquired the local oreck dealer and when I say over half of them needed upper housings I’m not exaggerating...

Just finished up another one. This time a Hoover model 69. Went fairly custom with this one. Polished out the aluminum base and steel handle but kept some white accents, pretty cool looking I think. The paint was beyond saving as it sat outside in the elements for many years so why not have some...

    Hoover 450 brushroll.

Man I wish. I have that exact brushroll but its diameter is just a bit too wide to fit. It slots in and rolls fine but the belt slot is a bit too far to the left and the rug plate won’t close with it. I appreciate the help though.

    Hoover 450 brushroll.

I have searched and searched and just can’t find a brushroll for my Hoover 450. Sadly it didn’t come with one when I bought it. Does anyone have one, know where to find one, know what models might be interchangeable or how to Frankenstein one or have pictures of one? I have a mint brushroll...

    Hoover 725

I know this thread is almost 10 years old but you wouldn’t happen to have any of those 800 agitators would you?

Well I finally mostly finished this Montgomery ward. I bought a switch to wire up in the cord but I’m leaving it off for now. Wired in a new old style cloth cord directly to the motor and added some rubber hose as a stress reliever. Found a hose the right size that fits the cord snug and when...

I used to be worried about it also until I realized the motor is just magnets and wire. Everything we’re scared of with electricity either hurts us or electronics. No electronics no problem

So I just finished up with the clear coat and wow was I not expecting the result. It totally cut the chrome look out of the silver paint and darkened it up some. It basically made it look like the factory paint but brand new and maybe a few shades lighter than the original Here it is with just...

I tried to do the same thing to really clean out the top bearing on mine. I tried penetrating oil, heating it with a torch, freezing it by blasting it with an upside down air duster, and many different pry tools. I didn’t want to wreck mine either so I gave up. What makes you think it’s the top...

Ok decided to go with jb stick weld to cover up that hole. It’s pretty janky but I coated the inside of the frame with silicone spray before filling the gap with jb weld to keep it from sticking when cured. Looks like crap on the inside but at least it’s removable if I find a switch that will...

All right stitches are out and new project on the bench. A Montgomery Ward hand vac. I honestly don’t know much about it other than I’ve had it for a a long time and it only turned on once for about 2 seconds. I tore it apart and cleaned it so far. This thing has the strangest design I’ve ever...

Buffing a Hoover to bare metal.

It is in good shape. It just needed a good cleaning. That vacuum was in the same family since new

Thank you, it depends on the bearing. First I make sure to pull all parts out as soon as the cycle finishes. The hotter the parts the faster the water evaporates. I’ll spray the bearings out with carb clean to flush any water/old grease out. I’ll keep spraying them out until they spin freely...
