What are your earliest and favorite vacuum memories?
•18 Months old playing with my uncles and my nanas early 1990s Henry HVR200s.
•My brother & I sitting with our Uncle at his Windows 98 computer browsing old numatic pictures on dial up internet :)
•Seeing our infant schools caretaker, Graham, dragging around the schools premiere mini 175 on a daily basis
What is the history of vacuum you have owned?
a few rare ones but mostly modern Numatic vacuums which Ive since sold on, my old dc08 & street find Vax 121 (1882805) comes to mind.
Have you ever worked on, repaired and/or restored any vacuum cleaners?
Many! Most notably; My Green Henry HVR200 from July - August 1997 (bold name) is by far my most repaired and restored vacuum I have in the collection. It was sitting on somesones front garden for months, when my dad brought it home Henry was missing his filter, cable, and motor. The hose was also leaking air via four holes which looked to be the aftermath of a fork stabbing. The three piece stainless steel rods were all blocked with rubble. The single pedal floor head was also internally damaged but rapidly fixed. With a quick glance at Henrys hat we determined it to be a DIY Henry, because it was covered in paint but also a PAT sticker was present, dating back to 2005. I put a DAF motor back into Henry but then the brushes jammed up so I had to promptly remove them for a soak in hot water, then solder them back to the motor. I bizarrely managed to snap two individual contacts off the cord reel during reassembly, and for the first time soldered those back on. Henry looks & works brilliant for the life and failed surgery hes had to indulge.
Ive also Retrobrited my 1987 Andyvac NV200. When we found Andyvac back in March of 2013 his lid was in the original cream colour, no signs of yellowing were present. Years later my Dad stored Andyvac in the loft where it was exposed to high temperatures. I only got Andyvac back in December 2021 and the damaged had been done... until Friday 7th October 2022! I fully reverted the cream lid during a 29 hour process of retrobriting in my loft. I used 40VOL cream peroxide and two 60W UV LED Lights. Andyvac looks like his glorious former self but for how long it will last is out of my control, Ill be sure to periodically take photographs to compare over time!
